WhereNext

UTS BCII Capstone (2024)

Context

WhereNext was the outcome of the final capstone project for the Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation.

There is a common sentiment among young people that Sydney has a poor nightlife scene. While there are a myriad of complex issues and reasons surrounding this sentiment, we set out to understand what the root causes of this negative sentiment are and devise ways to intervene and shift perceptions among the target demographic.

The Challenge

Uncover the root causes of Sydney’s poor nightlife reputation and design a practical intervention that will help revitalise the nightlife scene for young people.

Innovation Process

After an extensive research and discovery phase it was found that decision making can make all the difference to a night out and is one of the few aspects that remain within the control of the individual. One bad decision or experience can leave a lasting impression. If we can minimise the occurrence of negative experiences during a night out, we can shift perceptions surrounding Sydney’s nightlife and foster a thriving, positive nightlife scene.

Reframed Challenge

How might we facilitate seamless decision making on a night out to help Sydneysiders find the right venue to visit 'next'?

Solution

WhereNext is a hyper-personalised nightlife discovery and recommendation platform which uses a comprehensive database of venue information, real- time data and an advanced preference matching algorithm to help Sydneysiders discover the perfect venues and experiences for them. It facilitates seamless, effective decision making and takes the stress out of trying to decide ‘Where Next’.
